After an initial consultation with a practitioner the following treatment schematic will take place –
this is an overview and based upon a face as the body part being treated as an example:
The area to be treated will be cleansed
You will then have a small amount of DermaPhoresis™ cream placed onto your face in 4 different areas.
The 5-minute ultrasound massage will now commence. This massages the cream which contains rich
anti oxidants intradermally – this process is termed DermaPhoresis™.
Any excess cream will be removed and the area treated will be cleansed again. This ensures
that the skin is clean and dry, which enables The Salt A-Peel™ hand piece to move more
freely across the skin during the peel.
The Salt A-Peel™ will commence. The Practitioner will
place eye patches, tape on your eyes and will commence
the treatment. The treatment is painless, all you will
feel a slight tingling sensation as the salt is blown
onto the skin. Typically you will receive 3 passes although this
may vary depending upon your skin type. Your neck and under eyes will only receive 1 pass
as the skin is thinnest here.
After the final pass you will have any excess salt sponged off using water. You will then have a
soothing liquid sprayed onto your skin this will hydrate the skin. This will be
blotted off
with a tissue and you will then have a barrier gel applied to seal the pores. Finally you will have
an SPF 30 sun bloc applied as the stratum corneum will
have been removed and your skin will be far more
sensitive to sunlight.
It is important that sun bloc is used for the next 2 or more days. We would however, as a matter
of good practice, recommend the daily use of sun bloc as
a part of a general anti ageing regime. You will be given the remainder of
the DermaPhoresis™ cream to take home and apply on the treated area every night in between treatments.
Frequently asked questions:
“Does it hurt?” – The ultrasound is a warming relaxing treatment and is described as being pleasant.
Although The Salt A-Peel™ is not a beauty treatment it does not hurt, patients will experience a slight
tingling, prickling effect.
“Can I go back to work afterwards?” – Normal working activities can resume immediately after treatment.
There is very little, if any, post treatment redness.
“Can I see an immediate improvement?” – Your skin will feel refreshed immediately after treatment
and it will feel a lot smoother to the touch. The amount of improvement experienced does also depend
on the individual patients skin condition prior to treatment. Improvement on scarring, wrinkles and
stretch marks will take place over the course of treatments.
“How long does a full The Salt A-Peel™ combing DermaPhoresis™ take?” -
The treatment should take approximately 30 minutes.
“I have had microdermabrasion before with aluminum oxide what is the difference?” –
The difference is in a number of areas firstly, salt is used as the abrasive, salt is
renown for its healing properties, it is natural and few people are sensitive to it and it gives a
very even abrasion. Secondly, positive pressure is used to blow the salt on to the skin. This effectively
removes the stratum corneum in less than 3 passes. Thirdly,
ultrasound is used to massage rich anti
oxidant products into the skin. Overall, the treatment will not only reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles,
stretch marks acne scarring and active acne, it will also assist in the quality and condition
of newly forming skin.
“How long has The Salt A-Peel been available?” – The Salt A-Peel™ has been available in the United States for over
2 years where over 400 clinics now offer The Salt A-Peel™ treatments as part of their overall anti ageing programs.

“What evidence is there that the treatment works?” – The company, Integremed LLC, has
invested significantly in clinical
studies determining the treatment protocols, efficacy and documenting the results. The conclusion has been that the system
effectively reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, acne scarring, pigmentation, stretch marks and even active acne where the
salt has a drying effect. Histology is available along with clinical papers documenting the findings.
“Can I continue to use my normal cosmetic products during the treatment?” – The DermaPhoresis™ masque cream contains
10% glycolic acid, which helps keep the skin open allowing the vitamins into the skin whilst you are using this,
which will be in between treatments you should avoid any products containing glycolic acid.
